Refrain From Lying - Pastor Dr. Evans Ankomah

Refrain From Lying

 REFRAIN FROM LYING
Our conversation needs to reflect God’s goodness, not the world’s coarseness. Those who tell lies have the tongue of the serpent which is double –edged. The more you continue to lie, the more you entangle yourself with more lies until one day, you will be totally exposed. By telling lies, you become unreliable and non-dependable. Continuous spinning of lies, makes you frightful since in the deepest of your inner self there is the feeling that you fear your lies will be revealed one day.
Liars are not bold that is why they will urge you to swear never to reveal to anyone that  such information have been relayed by them. They are not bold  and anyone listening to them can discern from their eyes and heartbeats that there is fear in them.
Liars stammer and shake when finally they are caught and their misdemeanor shameful.

“For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile.” (1Peter 3:10)
If we want to enjoy life and see good days, then we should refrain from evil and stop telling lies. Lying is not telling the truth but rather telling the exact opposite of a matter. By
lying, you withdraw away from God to Satan and from light to darkness. When you refuse to refrain and repent of lying, your conscience becomes seared like hot iron, thereby,

breaking your fellowship with God (1Timothy 4:2)
Are you aware that lying destroys people’s trust in you and damages your personality? When this happens, it becomes difficult to restore your image. If you have been involved in lying, confess your sins, forsake them and ask God to forgive you. Then, be determined to live a holy life.
There are many people around whose lips are deception and deceitfulness. They love to present a lie as the truth and persuade others to believe it. This  is poisonous and can shorten one’s lifetime. An example is Ananias and Sapphira inActs 5:1-10.
A lot of people are full of evil words. Their utterances are full of false charges against their brethren with the intention of damaging their image. God has given a strong instruction concerning this as seen clearly in the scripture above.
Whenever you utter false charges against your brethren and are caught, you lose respect and dignity among people. Also, you are counted among liars, who are children of the devil (John 8:44)
Beloved in the LORD, let us be mindful of our utterances and refrain from evil words, deceitfulness, slandering, lying and all forms of ungodly character.
 ENCOURAGE AND BUILD UP OTHERS
As Christians, we should use our speech constructively to build and lift others up.
“Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do” (1Thessalonians 5:11)
Apostle Paul prayed for Onesiphorus in 2Timothy 1:16 -17:
The LORD give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus, for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of his chains: But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.
Onesiphorus helped and encouraged Apostle Paul many times during his sad moments and difficult
times. He was not ashamed that Apostle
Paul was in prison; he
looked and looked until he found him to encourage and refresh him.
We need people like Onesiphorus who will encourage and be there for us when we go through tough times, difficulties and temptations. When people like Onesiphorus come around you, you feel good and refreshed.
May the LORD send someone like Onesiphorus your way who will ensure to encourage and revive you anytime you feel sad and feel like giving up in life. May God make you an Onesiphorus in your family, in your church, in your office, in the field and everywhere you go. Never forget that two hands of man bath each other since each cannot do it all alone for itself.

CONTROL YOUR TONGUE
As we learn to control our tongue, we will be able to control other aspects of our lives
“  1My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.3Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. 4Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. 5Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8But the tongue can no man tame; it isan unruly evil, full of deadly poison.9Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.10Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?12Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh” (James 3:1-12)
Teaching was a highly
valued and respected profession in the
Jewish culture, and
many Jews who embraced Christianity wanted to become teachers. James warned that, although, it is good to aspire to teach, a teacher’s responsibility is great because their words and examples affect others’ spiritual lives. If you are in a teaching or leadership role, how are you affecting those you lead? Are you leading your people the right way? Are you teaching them the truth?
A man is said to be mature if he can control his tongue. This is because the tongue affects a person’s whole life. Therefore, if we are able to tame our tongue then we can have control over all aspects of our lives. Pay attention to your words. Speak victorious words always and your life will go that way.
